Ethnic groups in America

While reading through chapter 4 in Daniels book, it was interesting to find that over 60% of the white population came from the British Isles.  This high percentage made curios to find more about the political, economic and social situation in Brittan at that time. According localhistories.org, in the late of the 17th century the economy in England boomed and trade became an important element in England economy. Having the highest percentage is not a coincidence. There ere different ethnic group industries such as coal and iron expanded rapidly. It also stated that science in the 17th century flourished. One of the well know scientists in the seventeenth century was Isaac Newton. This indicated that England was going through industrial revolution and agricultural revolution. The population in England grew rapidly making it hard for people to work and find good life condition. Moreover, the infrastructure in England was not ready to accommodate the people, who moved to the cities. These reasons justified the high percentage of the white immigrants came from England.

Many different ethnic groups immigrated to North America in the late seventeenth and eighteenth century. According to Daniels, African American was about 20% of the total population, and they were more concentrated in the south and two states North Carolina and Virginia.   The chapter also emphasizes on the Jews immigrants. It states that in 1790, the Jews were around 2000 people and the spread from New England to Georgia. The Jews thrived in America, and they were able to build synagogues in five port cities: New York, Newport, Savannah, Philadelphia, and Charleston. I also was a curio to find out about the Jews Immigrants in the 19th century. It is interesting to know that a large scale came form Germany where were they oppressed from the Nazis.

It interesting to research and find the cause behind the immigrants who came to the states. As we saw earlier in England, the population increased tremendously making it hard for some people to live and work in the city.  So, they searched for another place where they can live and work. On the same hand the Jews faced oppression and discrimination from the Nazis and that made them search for another place where they can live with no fear.
